A little about me.
An old Kodak Instamatic camera sets on the shelf, in an important position, behind my office desk. It is not used today, but it has played an important role in my life’s journey and who I am today.
I am Brad Staman, an encouraging leader striving to bring together winning teams. My strengths include leadership, photography, journalism, teaching, marketing, writing, team building, and newspaper design.
I am presently the College Relations Director at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming.
Before joining the EWC team I was the editor at the Star-Herald newspaper in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Under my leadership we were an award winning daily newspaper covering western Nebraska and part of eastern Wyoming.
The old camera was given to me by my parents the day I joined the Foto Freaks 4-H club. I captured my first images on the old film camera. It also opened the door to the world of photography, writing and leadership, bringing me to where I am now.
A journey, which started in a 4-H club, took me in the darkroom, led to the newsroom and then into a weekly editor position, two publisher positions and to the editor’s desk at a daily newspaper.
Along the way on this journey I have been able to tell a number of great stories with both camera and words. I’ve also been honored to help others grow as reporters, photographers, and leaders. I’ve taken a weekly newspaper from being $65k in the red to the black in three years and made it the top award winning paper, twice. I have also taken a daily to the top award winning paper. Along the way I have worked with many young reporters who I’ve watched blossom into leaders in journalism and other fields.
I’ve worked with leaders to improve the communities I’ve called home and created a winning atmosphere everywhere I’ve worked.
The old Kodak Instamatic camera has blazed an exciting path for me along life’s journey and I’m always looking forward to the next adventure.
